Puppies Behind Bars
Puppies Behind BarsMy aunt’s friend quit working for the magazine industry to get a job with this non-profit.  “Puppies Behind Bars trains inmates to raise puppies to become service dogs for the disabled and explosive detection canines for law enforcement.” Watching their videos might just make you cry.   One inmate says something along the lines of “This is the first time I’ve touched an animal since being in prison.  After 20 years here, I feel like a human again.”

Book Review: Eat That Frog! 21 Great Ways to Stop Procrastinating and Get More Done in Less Time
Eat that FrogI just finished reading Eat That Frog – though it feels very repetitive and often common sense, it is still a nice reminder of some basic ways and pretty effective to get focused and get done more of the things you want done (rather than all the other little things we keep getting done while we wish we were achieving our dreams and goals). Some key ideas which I found most important:

Design thinking on drinking water

Prep Time: 20 min

We Can Make A Difference

In 2008, 50,000 Estonians got together and did in one day what it would have taken the government 3 years and 22 million euros to do – clean up all the garbage in the country! More than 600 volunteers came together to organize Campaign “Lets Do It!”, a grassroots initiative to clean up the country from 10,000 tons of illegal waste in just one day. This civil society initative shows that we all can make a difference if we want to.

Eating Right: Sprouted Mung Pancakes

Sprouted whole mung pancakes
What’s for breakfast Sunday morning??? How about these delicious, crispy savory pancakes. It will however call for a little bit of planning ahead of the game.

All you need to do is soak your organic green whole mung beans Saturday morning in cold water. Drain the water Saturday early evening and rinse them clean couple of times. And leave them out in a clean dry bowl for sprouting! Sunday morning you will have your mung beans all set to be used.

Relax and Give Back

The incredible part about yoga is that it not only makes us strong, gets us in shape, but also increases our capacity to serve others. YES+ cobines yoga with service – hence the name!

If you had a long week or are simply looking for a pump up before the weekend, then check out our “Relax and Give Back” event at  Lululemon in Clarendon, VA. This is a free class and each participant is encouraged to donate a canned food item to the Arlington Food Assistance Clinic (AFAC). Each donation will help families in need in Arlington. The class will be taught by a certified YES+ teacher.
